A movie review : Stanley ka dabba

‘Stanley ka dabba’
Hearing this name, most of you must have thought of grabbing something to eat. Come on, admit it! I was actually eating a bunch of Kurkure (my surname is kArkAre) while I jotted this down. Hence, I raise my hand to say: Yeah, I felt like eating something (more)!

From the trailer, you get the impression of a greedy teacher who harasses the students and you tend to think it must be a boring movie with kids and the teacher and the so called ‘dabba’. Tell you what, this dabba is not a dabba(movie) ! The way the kids have ‘acted’ is amazing! The teachers are amazing too. There is a teacher who appreciates novel ideas. There is a teacher who hates novel ideas. There is a teacher who epitomizes hypocrisy. We all have met all these teachers in our school days, and hence each character is life-like and relatable.

Talking about Stanley, he is this amazing student studying in the fourth grade. The boy exhibits the confidence of a young adult. He is the centre of attraction of the whole gang of boys for a reason…he’s creative and intelligent in his own unique way. His science project involves real life and yet his science teacher thinks that it is trash. A segment that shows that out-of-the-box thinking is not that well received in schools. Also, the noticeable thing is his self-confidence and belief in self. You will see him unbeaten, undefeated, unconquered till the end of the movie. His stories are in fact so incredible, that he gets a ‘You rock!’ for them.

The movie takes you to a journey which seems to be very ‘rosy’ (No puns here about Miss Rosy) before the climax and makes you think afterwards. The way they have ended the movie is fabulous. It is truly depicting the happenings in the society. Does Stanley get a dabba during the New Year? If yes, how? Does his mom trouble him earlier? Do they hire a maid? Why does khadoos eat the children’s dabba? I can give away the story by telling you the same. However, I strongly believe that my words will not have the impact in your minds the way the movie will have. Do watch it and follow what is requested from you at the end of the movie. No! They are not asking you to bring a dabba the next time you watch the movie.

See you later!
